Rutgers Cooperative Extension, with assistance from colleagues from five land-grant universities and two federal government agencies, created the 11-unit online basic investing home study course, Investing For Your Future. This course, which subsequently won three national awards, is updated each year for changes in tax regulations and other information.
Investing for Your Future assumes that learners have little previous investment experience and begins with basic concepts and terminology (e.g., asset allocation, dollar-cost averaging, and liquidity) and a discussion of ways to find money to invest. It then proceeds to discuss various types of investments in detail, including an entire chapter devoted to mutual funds. Other topics covered in the course include tax deferred investing, investing with small dollar amounts, investment resources, selecting professional financial advisors, and investment fraud.
